Your Home, Your Sanctuary
Your home is your sanctuary, one in which should be relaxing offering a sense of pure serenity. Transform you life, and create the ultimate inner sanctum right in your own home. How? By following these few suggestions, you too can make your home a gentle and serene place of existence that is something to look forward to coming home to.
Creating a sanctuary is easy; all it takes is to create a setting that offers soothing colors, no unnecessary clutter, and minimal décor. Make your home a sacred place even more so by adding meditative floor cushions and bamboo mats, placing incense with balancing fragrances of geranium, bergamot, vanilla and patchouli in various places. Now think color. Color sets the mood, and relaxes the spirit. Color should be implemented not only in the form of paint on a wall, but in fabrics and floor coverings as well.
Now that your home has become a sanctuary, it's time for you. Treat yourself as though you are staying in a five-star hotel. Make yourself feel as though you are a guest in your own home. Simply put, spoil yourself! Slip into freshly laundered Egyptian cotton sheets misted lightly with essential oils such as lavender and chamomile. Buy a plush soft blanket, luxuriantly silky Turkish towels, and an English bar of soap lightly fragranced with almond. Go to the local farmer's market and buy bouquets of fragrant and vibrantly colored flowers and put them by the bath, the bed and on the dining room table. In doing so, the spirit feels revived and uplifted.
Lighting can truly set the mood. Proper lighting creates a sense of harmony, warmth, intimacy and comfort. If not installed, dimmer switches offer a calmer environment more so than the traditional and harsh overhead lighting. With such a selection of bulbs today, one can choose to light the interior space with soft hues of pink, blue, and pale yellows. Opt for the romance that only candlelight can bring-nothing can offer more tranquility than that.
Take a bath. No need to gain the benefits of spa and beauty therapies when you can do this yourself. Set aside an evening where it is all about you. Indulge in a glass of wine while soaking in a long bath scented with your favorite bath beads and oils, made perfect by putting on a special piece of music. Not only is the warmth of a bath healing it helps to relax the mind and body as well as calming the nerves. If all wound up, shut the curtains, sink into a big comfy chair and watch a feel-good classical movie.
Maintain your home and its purpose as sanctity of space. Keeping your home peaceful, serene and beautiful creates functionality and is a reflection of the harmony that resides in us. Creating an environment that mimics as such only helps us to celebrate who we are and the qualities that reside in each one of us.
