When inspecting a kitchen, oven is one thing that we like to inspect first. To check if it's a clean oven, and big enough for roasting, gas or electrical.

When I mention oven, I mean the whole stove.

I also notice that oven is one particular area the real estate property managers want to make sure is clean when they inspect a kitchen. Like wise are the home buyers, investors and rentals.

Oven is something we tend to neglect when cleaning around our homes. We'll clean the bedrooms, toilets and bathrooms, floor, walls, kitchen and even our kitchen shelves and cupboards, dish washer etc. but we'll forget our oven.

Some oven may only look clean on the outside but are very greasy and dirty inside. It is a good idea to clean your oven after every 3 months, especially if you use your oven often.

If your oven doesn't have a light on the inside you can use a torch light to inspect the inside of your oven.

A dirty oven takes longer to roast in than a clean oven because grease, oil and tar build up in the oven does avoided the heat from being distributed evenly inside the oven.

A clean oven can save power.

You need to have patience when you clean oven. You'll need to put in more time and more efforts on scrubbing and wiping etc. in order to get that oven back to it's new stage.

Ovens are always greasy, molded with layers of grime that have been there for ages from roasting and regular usage.

We have to be very careful on what product you use in cleaning your oven. Oven is closed; to keep the heat in while roasting and by using the wrong product can easily contaminate your roast.

Some tips for DIY oven cleaning with home made oven cleaner

The problem of leaving these products overnight are; the product dries up and they just stick to the oven surface. When the product dry up, they stop performing their cleaning reaction. You'll need to continually wet the products so it doesn't dry up

You can also turn your oven on, to heat it up before you start cleaning.

Remove all removable oven parts. This will make it easier to get in and around the oven when cleaningRemove all the stove parts and place them in your laundry sink. The advantage is laundry sink is bigger than the kitchen sink.

Use hot water for cleaning.

When removing the parts make sure you understand how they are arranged in order. Be careful as some parts of the stove are also heavy.

Use soft cloth for wiping your oven and steel wool for scrubbing.
